What A Talent I Found Today.

My wife and I decided to go up to Joe Huber's Family Restaurant in southern Indiana. When we walk in the front door I notice that there is a guy toward the back of the restaurant singing and playing guitar. So I'm thinking this will be cool if the guys any good. Lucky for me they seat us not to far from where he is playing. When we sit down I can hear him but I'm busy talking to the waitress and then my wife and I are chatting till they bring out a basket of rolls and our drinks. while we are eating some…

You Just Never Know What's Gonna Happen

Well I went into the studio today fully intending to finish up "Jalopy Joe" but ended up writing the title cut for the CD "Like Father Like Son".  Funny how that works.
Oh well at least I got something done. Here is a rough sample of what it is gonna sound like. The noise at the beginning is suppose to be there. It is an old fashion radio being tuned in.

The world just lost an amazing talent.

Saturday 6/11/2016

The first time I saw this young lady sing I new she was meant to be a star. Her voice, as evident in this video, had so much power for such a small girl. Her presents on stage on The Voice was equally powerful.

So full of energy and so full of life. A true gift and talent from God. What a great loss. A risk that all who are in the public eye take every time they put themselves out there in front of their fans. Let us all lift up her family in prayer.

"Jalopy Joe"

In the studio tonight laying down some tracks on the song Sharon and I wrote called 'Jalopy Joe.'  Should be ready to post in about a week. Hope you guys like it as much as I'm enjoying recording it. I love the sound of a driving banjo and a mandolin together. Just gets your foot tapping.

This song got started when we were on our way to breakfast, and Sharon spotted this old truck on the side of the road.  By the time we got to the house we had a song. Funny how these songs come together like that.

Molly Cherryholmes with Mountain Heart Singing The Tennessee Waltz

Saturday, May 28, 2016
I am a big fan of Molly Cherryholmes.  When Mountain Heart lost their longtime fiddle player, somebody with a brain thought to approach Molly to take his place.  I have seen a different version of Molly doing this song, but this is the best yet.  My father would be proud to hear his song being sung by so many great artists over sixty years after he wrote it.

Enjoy and be sure and check out the rest of Mountain Heart's great music.  This ain't your daddy's Bluegrass.

Jacob Collier - Tennessee Waltz

Saturday, May 28, 2016
Hello everybody. Most of you know my wife, Sharon, and if you do then you know about all of the things she posts about my dad's song "The Tennessee Waltz".  She spends a lot of hours searching the web to find anything she can about the song.

Over the years it has been amazing to me all that she has found.  It is still hard for me to grasp how far reaching this song has been, and how many lives it has touched.  It has been recorded by so many people and in so many styles of music, and it…Read more

I'm Back!

Wednesday, May 18, 2016
Well I'm finally back in the studio and working on some new material for the CD project 'Like Father Like Son.'  Amazing how life can get in the way of what you are trying to do. Oh well, Rome wasn't built in a day either. It's been one delay after another, but the path is looking pretty clear to move forward on this project that is very near and dear to my heart.

Sharon and I are excited about the way this CD is beginning to take shape. One of the hardest parts is creating a…Read more
